In November 2024 the US election outcome resulted in huge implications for not only America but also Australia - and we didn't get a say. Join Senator Barbara Pocock for a critical discussion with Margaret Hallock on the current state of politics in the US and our relationship with it.
Margaret Hallock is a long time US union educator, feminist and political researcher. She lives in Oregon and has been a friend and ally of Senator Barbara Pocock's for decades - as they have shared their perspectives, enthusiasm, alarm, despair and hope.
Trump is a threat to our democracy and to progress. That threat is even greater for women, people of colour, the LGBTIQA+ community and for the climate. Our governments have already made huge deals with the US without community consultation or even proper debate. These are deals that have locked us into an unbalanced relationship with a dangerous demagogue. The Greens have been calling on the Prime Minister to urgently cancel AUKUS and reconsider Australia's relationship with the United States, but the major parties continue to push ahead with this agreement that will cost us $365 billion. And as a result, we will have nuclear waste dumped into Osborne whether we like it or not. How is this good for any of us?
But we will not give up on hope. We must come together and continue to fight for people and for the planet. Barbara and Margaret are going to talk about what is happening and what we can do about it, with time for questions from those who join us.
We look forward to seeing you there!
