Everyone is welcome. It doesn’t matter if you live outside of Sturt or have never been involved, this is still the event for you!
Generally, scrutineering is suited to people who can stay focussed and be assertive. If that sounds like you, we need you!
Scrutineering is the process of watching over the counting of the votes. It is a HUGELY important role, as the people counting the votes are skilled, but only human, and small mistakes happen. In a seat as close as Sturt, every vote could radically change the outcome.
To scrutineer, you need to observe every vote counted, be assertive so you can politely ask that some votes are recounted, and occasionally be willing to challenge a vote - this is where a vote is in question and you need to plead it's case to the official onsite. This training will cover how to do all of this and more. Scrutineering is surprisingly action packed!
Counting of the vote happens on the night of Election Day, and in the days afterwards. So you also need to be avaliable for these times.
Please RSVP. This event is hosted at our Sturt Campaign Office, and we need to know how many people are coming to prepare accordingly.
